Full Comprehensive Description : |
Travelling long distances by train has been part of the Australian way of life since the last century. CountryLink’s fleet of modern XPT and XPLORER trains continue that tradition by carrying millions of passengers in style and comfort to their destinations in New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and Queensland. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the magnificent Australian landscape rolling past the tinted panoramic windows. Inside, the climate controlled air-conditioning and spacious interiors mean you arrive refreshed and relaxed. Our trains connect with the largest network of coaches in Australia to service almost every corner of NSW and beyond. All our coaches are reverse-cycle air-conditioned, with the latest in safety features including video cameras and lap sash seatbelts, reclining seats, wide-visibility windows, toilet facilities, TV/videos, and access for wheelchairs can be arranged on almost all vehicles with 48 hours notice. Your comfort is all-important. So our train seating is specially designed to make sure you have the proper support you need on long journeys. Each seat reclines to give you ample legroom and has adjustable arm and foot rests for even greater comfort. A fold-down table is fitted to the seat in front and you'll find a reading light above your head. Good things to eat - Enjoy the extensive range of hot and cold meals and tasty snacks from the buffet car. People travelling alone with small children, people with disabilities or the elderly who cannot visit the buffet can arrange to be served by the onboard crew. In addition, with 48 hours notice, we can provide for most special dietary requirements. Refreshing drinks - The buffet offers a wide choice of soft drinks and free chilled water is available at all times in the vestibule in each car. Your hotel on rails - Overnight sleeper facilities are available on the Northern and Southern XPT routes. Sleepers are twinette-style, with bed linen, towels, hand-towels and toiletries provided. Each sleeper is also fully equipped with luggage shelves, a small hanging wardrobe, portable tray tables, a mirror and 240-volt AC power outlet for electric shavers. Toilet facilities and showers (with pre-set temperature controls for your comfort and safety) are located between each compartment. And, in the morning, what better way to start the day than breakfast served to your sleeper. During the day, the sleepers each convert to three comfortable seats. Meeting your special needs -Men’s and ladies' toilets are located at opposite ends of each car. We also cater for wheelchair passengers, provide asthma nebulisers, payphones, and a fold-down baby change table. All our services are non-smoking. Your luggage allowance - When you travel with CountryLink you can check in one item of luggage weighing up to 20 kg and you can also take one 5kg item of hand luggage on board. Check-in facilities are available at most CountryLink stations up to 30 minutes before departure. Please ask for further details when booking your ticket. Passengers who prefer to carry their own luggage on board can store it in the luggage racks at the ends of each carriage and on the racks above their seats but please remember this is restricted to one piece per passenger at 20kg. Space is also available for accompanied bicycles, surfboards and other large items. However, these must be booked in advance and a small charge will apply. Canberra Enjoy the picturesque scenery of the Southern Highlands as you glide along the 329-km journey towards Canberra on CountryLink’s Xplorer train. From Canberra you can connect with CountryLink coaches to Bombala and Eden via Cooma or the Alpinexpress which will connect you with the snowfields. South The XPT runs the 953-km journey twice daily from Sydney to Melbourne (and return) through the rural heartland of NSW and Victoria. CountryLink coaches connect at Cootamundra to Mildura via the SouthWest Slopes and MIA, as well as to Condobolin via West Wyalong, to Dubbo via Young and Forbes, to Bathurst via Orange and tumbarumba via Batlow and Tumut. CountryLink coaches connect at Wagga to Echuca via Jerilderie, as well as to Griffith via Narrandera. CountryLink coaches connect at Albury to Echuca via Yarrawonga and Cobram. Sleeper services are available on night services, and on day services these convert to first-class seating compartments. Once a week in both directions, CountryLink runs an Xplorer train to Griffith that splits from the Canberra train at Goulburn. North West One of CountryLink’s most popular Xplorer train services is the morning train to Moree and Armidale that travels around 600-km from Sydney and divides at Werris Creek. Travel through the wine country of the Hunter Valley and the “Big Sky” Country further North. CountryLink coaches connect at Tamworth to Inverell and from Armidale to Tenterfield. CountryLink coaches also connect at Narrabri to Wee waa and Burren Junction. The Xplorers leave Moree and Armidale each morning as well to rejoin at Werris Creek to get you back in to Sydney in the early evening. West The Daily XPT to Dubbo takes you through the Blue Mountains as well as Orange and Parkes on the 445-km journey to Dubbo. CountryLink coaches connect at Dubbo to Lightning Ridge, to Broken Hill via Nyngan, and to Bourke. There is also a coach connection at Coolabah to Brewarrina. Connections are also available onto CountryLink coaches off certain CityRail trains from Mt Victoria to Oberon, and Lithgow to Parkes via Bathurst and Orange. Once a week in both directions, CountryLink runs an Xplorer train service the whole 1100-km from Sydney to Broken Hill via Bathurst, Orange, and Parkes. This is some of the best scenery you can see in the world from a train window and is a rail experience not to be missed.
